BELLA (Battery and Electrochemistry Laboratory) is a joint research lab, equally funded by KIT and BASF SE. BELLA combines fundamental work with application-driven projects on materials and cell components for next-generation batteries. The equipment of the laboratory allows for a variety of synthetic work, electrochemical characterization of electrode and electrolyte materials, and the investigation of cell properties. The laboratory is headed both by Prof Dr. Jürgen Janek, division head at INT and head of the institute of physical chemistry at the Justus-Liebig-University Giessen, and by Dr. Andreas Fischer, BASF’s vice-president of battery research and electrochemistry (Ludwigshafen). In addition to the scientific directors, lab team leader Dr. Aleksandr Kondrakov from BASF SE and lab manager Dr. Torsten Brezesinski from KIT are in charge of the daily operation of the laboratory, including project planning and organization.
