BELhospice Information

Centre for palliative care and palliative medicine BELhospice is the first specialised charity organisation in Serbia that provides palliative care aimed at improved quality of life to cancer patients and their families. Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problem associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psycho-social and spiritual. Our multidisciplinary team is consisted of two doctors, three nurses, two carers, a social worker, psychologist and a spiritual coordinator. All our services are free of charge for the patients and their families. Our work is financed solely through donations. Belhospice provides Hospice Home care and Hospice Day Care services, organizes the specialized palliative care trainings and actions aimed at raising awareness about the need to improve the palliative care in Serbia. We accomplished largely to mobilize community to take active part in providing support to cancer patients and families and achieved to engage over 150 volunteers in our activities. In addition, the BELhospice fundraising team achieved to mobilize the corporate sector companies, individual donors, international organisations to enable funds for operations and building the first phase of the Hospice Day Care Center in Serbia. All our activities have been greatly done in cooperation with partnering Hospices of Hope UK. We are providing the following services: Hospice Home-care services: Pain management and symptom control Psychological, social and spiritual support for patients and their families Bereavement support Volunteering support Hospice Day Care services Provision of the Care to the cancer patients and their family members by the multidisciplinary team Free of charge transportation to the Day Care Center
