BEKA (Pty) Ltd started operations in 1978 in\r\nNamibia, a country that has one of the most\r\ncorrosive climates in the world. The first products\r\nin manufacture were corrosion-resistant Glass\r\nFibre Reinforced Polyester Poles and Public\r\nLighting luminaires that continue to provide longterm\r\nsolutions for the hostile coastal and inland\r\nenvironments.\r\nDue to the success of BEKA’s products becoming\r\nfirmly established in neighbouring South Africa,\r\nthe decision was made in 1981 to move the head\r\noffice and factory to Olifantsfontein, a\r\nstrategically positioned industrial town situated\r\nbetween Johannesburg and Pretoria.\r\nIn 1989, BEKA became South Africa’s first lighting\r\ncompany to be awarded ISO 9000 certification.\r\nThis commitment to quality became the\r\ncompany’s hallmark that enabled BEKA to\r\nbecome Africa’s largest lighting manufacturer\r\nand market leader in Amenity, Functional, Flood,\r\nIndustrial, Commercial and Emergency Lighting.\r\nBEKA’s products are used in many infrastructure\r\ndevelopments, such as roads and highways,\r\nresidential and commercial areas, and town\r\ncentres through municipal urban regeneration\r\nprogrammes. Furthermore, BEKA has become a\r\nmarket leader in sports and stadium lighting.\r\nBEKA’s success can be attributed to the research\r\nand development of the luminaire and pole\r\nranges, ensuring the appropriate mechanical\r\nand thermal product integrity in the\r\nenvironmental conditions of the African\r\ncontinent. The success of this approach\r\nprovides a sound product identity that generates\r\ngrowth and expansion into other markets and\r\nterritories.\r\nIn 2002 the Belgian company, Schréder Group\r\nGIE, has bought a shareholding in BEKA. Through\r\nthis association, BEKA has been provided access\r\nto leading lighting technologies for which\r\nSchréder Group GIE is renowned.\r\nBEKA anticipates extensive growth for the\r\nproduct ranges on the African continent through\r\nthe continued expansion of various infrastructures\r\nfor many years to come.
