At Barwic Parade, our lessons are fun, engaging and exciting. They are well planned, focusing on the children's interests and are supported with a wide range of resources. All lessons are differentiated to meet the needs of each individual child. Each child has clear objectives and knows what they have to do to meet those objectives. Children are given instant verbal feedback and are shown the next steps in order to progress their learning. At the same time they are praised in order to boost confidence and esteem. We nurture effective learning behaviours and skills. We have high expectations of all our children and strive to ensure that, by the time they reach the end of Year 6, they are confident, independent and articulate learners who have a thirst for knowledge. Our learning environment extends to the school's outdoor spaces. We support our learning with a wide variety of play equipment, good quality PE resources, and outdoor writing and numeracy facilities. Performance management is available for all staff. Our teaching staff and Teaching Assistants observe good practice in our partnership schools and learn from each other within the school. Opportunities are then created to share this knowledge. Teaching staff are given time to discuss with Teaching Assistants how to move the children's learning forward in each specific class and key stage. Staff feel that they can share experiences through open and frank discussion, enabling them to act upon constructive feedback. We make use of all staff expertise in a range of subject fields including dance, music and art. At Barwic Parade we enjoy lessons which are built around cross curricular topics. These, together with whole school activity days, broaden academic learning and enhance social and emotional development.
