We started Small Theory Labs with a simple idea: AI was changing how much a small team could build. Could we turn that into profitable software businesses, with revenue from one funding the next? There were three of us: Anirudh Agarwal, Maharshi Chattopadhyay and Harsh Jain. We began with problems we understood personally. BeatFantasy grew out of our own use of algorithms in fantasy sports. We built match research, predictions and lineup tools that reached more than 100,000 users and over $200,000 in annual recurring revenue. We also made our prediction and team-generation capabilities available as APIs to other sports businesses. The problems we encountered along the way led to two more directions: Wireplain, an AI-assisted tool for understanding undocumented APIs, and Circuit, an event catalog and AI analyst for understanding product usage. The lab has now closed. This page brings together the businesses, experiments and people behind that chapter: what we believed, what we built, what found demand, and what we chose to stop.
