Bates Ranch | Janaca Vineyards is a family owned and operated vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains* that has been producing award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc varietals for three generations. Nourished by warm days and cool nights, the perfect micro-climate of the internationally acclaimed Santa Cruz Mountain terroir produces a rich and complex wine. Stan Galli, the famous California artist, was commissioned by the Bates family to create the rancher surveying his vineyard depicted on the label. We hope you and yours enjoy our Cabernet. *In 1981 the Santa Cruz Mountains Viticultural Appellation became federally recognized, one of the first American viticultural areas to be defined by geophysical and climatic factors. The appellation encompasses the Santa Cruz Mountain range, from Half Moon Bay in the north, to Mount Madonna in the south. The east and west boundaries are defined by elevation, extending down to 800 feet in the east and 400 feet in the west.
