BASICS began as a workshop in spring 2024, led by Michael Jacobs, a successful Silicon Valley entrepreneur and Berkeley alumnus. Mike observed how AI is narrowing the gap between technology and social sciences. Today’s entrepreneurs need fewer programming skills and more insight into human thinking and behavior. Dr. Uri Korisky from the Department of Cognitive Science soon joined him, and together they help cognitive science majors develop a unique competitive edge in the booming landscape of AI-based startups.
