As a Barony, we have the organizational advantage of a large group. We hope to utilize our members' current and future skills and interests to continue to promote classes and education to the study of the time periods. More organized workshops/days could be expanded beyond our scribal days. There is an excellent opportunity with the Renninger's location to hold ongoing artistic classes and demonstrations that we cannot do during our weekly meetings. We would like to see more of the performance arts within the Barony as a whole. We would like to see a more developed guild/program to focus our learning and crafts to add more pageantry and display to our events and courts. Additionally, more heraldic/period display of the members of the populace both in their personal display of individual and organizational associations would be encouraged. 2. What, if anything, would you do to foster unity, solidarity and a feeling of inclusiveness in the Barony, especially between those who attend meetings and those who attend fighter practice? We recognize the importance of all aspects of the dream. Some are more interested in the artistic arts and others in the martial arts, neither is more important than the other. Currently Amalric and our son Michael are both heavy fighters and try to make most Wednesday night practices. Adelheid truly understands the value that the martial community provides not only to the dream we play, but in the education we share. She has relied on the support of both the martial and artistic communities for the Lady of the Lakes demo every fall and is truly grateful. We would like to encourage the non-martial community to attend Wednesday fighter practices and for those who do fight to attend our Thursday night classes. However, we also understand that we all have limited time and resources and having to choose one or the other does not nullify your support of the Barony. As Baron and Baroness we will strive to continue to have a presence at both our Wednesday fighter practices and our Thursday meetings. 3. What would you do to encourage longevity in our members? We have been playing with our Barony for 19 years. Why, because we still find the fun and enjoyment in the dream. The SCA, at a Baronial, Kingdom and Society levels, have become our chosen family. We were welcomed into Darkwater and likewise into our Kingdom with open arms. At our first Kingdom event, TMT 1997, we were arrived onsite with no plan for a place to call home for the weekend. Someone recognized that we needed guidance and invited us to camp with their household for the weekend. This set the tenor for us of what is best within our Society. The best thing we can do is welcome new members and to encourage everyone to share their skills. Additionally, now that we are older members, it is important to remind ourselves and others to extend the hand of hospitality and remember what makes the SCA a wonderful organization. 4. Describe how the Baron and Baroness fit within the Baronial Officer structure. We have many dedicated officers within the group who see to the business of the Barony. The Baron and Baroness are representatives of their populace. They are to support and encourage the dream and to provide a direction for the Barony. The Baron and Baroness have always, and will continue to attend officer and business meetings and provide input on how the Barony is run. However; they should recognize that the officers are ultimately the decision makers of the Barony as far as business operations are concerned. 5. What are the duties of the Baron & Baroness? As the public representatives of the people, they should serve as an example to the populace and promote their interests. The Baron and Baroness have the job of ensuring that the Barony provides events and activities that are enjoyable and make all guests and members of the populace feel welcome. They should work with the teachers, officers and event staff to plan and promote all future happenings within the Barony and Cantons. The Baron and Baroness are the cheerleaders of the Barony. By being so, it is their responsibility to recognize members who have provided service to the Barony. The Baron and Baroness also have a responsibility to support the Kingdom and Crown of Trimaris.
