During that time, she helped thousands of program participants take their lives to new levels of success through self-sufficiency. Ms. Holston was a career-long advocate for empowering housing clients to shape their own futures. During her 45-year career in the housing industry, Barbara Holston built a lasting legacy of client service and support. Throughout her 23 years as a senior executive and president of the Fort Worth Housing Authority, she is focused on helping clients achieve their personal, academic and professional goals, and to become self-sufficient, productive members of their communities. She also served as a youth development advocate; worked with mentor programs; and provided leadership on a variety of community outreach initiatives. Additionally, she spearheaded efforts to create an affordable day care resource by developing the Amaka Child Care Center for public housing and assisted housing program participants. A large part of her success, and the success of every life that she has personally touched has been due to the partners and supporters who have joined her efforts to give low-income clients the knowledge base and skills training needed to obtain financial self-sufficiency.
