In 1986, Harpoon co- founders Rich Doyle and Dan Kenary began brewing Harpoon in Boston to share with others the joy of making—and drinking—great beer. In 2000, we added a second brewery in Windsor, VT to keep up with the demand. We are passionate about our company and our beer, and we work each day together to create great beer drinking experiences. This passion has resulted in many changes throughout the years including our most recent announcement in August of 2014 to become an employee owned company. Though many things have changed since the early days of Harpoon, most things have stayed the same. We still love brewing beer and find that we enjoy it more when shared with friends. Harpoon has over 300 employees who understand that making great beer fun can be more challenging – and more rewarding - than it seems. We do things a bit differently here; different from other companies in general and different from most of our fellow brewers. Different in this case does not mean more complex or harder to understand. Because we also believe in being simple and straightforward. Since 1994, Shipyard Brewing Company has been brewing fine quality products with a wide range of style profiles. We use only top quality ingredients and pride ourselves on the consistency and freshness of our products. All our beer is hand crafted from recipes developed by master brewer Alan Pugsley, one of the most influential people in the craft brewing movement in North America. Award-winning Shipyard beer is available in 38 states and markets for our freshly brewed, hand-crafted ales continue to expand. In 2009, Shipyard Brewing Company shipped 1,137,465 cases (82,558 barrels) of our award-winning, hand-crafted ales. We also shipped 45,750 cases (3,321 barrels) of Capt'n Eli's Soda. The total brewing capacity of the brewery is 140,000 barrels so we have the ability to double our production in the years ahead. At peak production, we fill 144,000 bottles per day (6,000 cases). Shipyard first began in 1992 at Federal Jack's Restaurant and Brew Pub in Kennebunk, which is one of Maine's original brew pubs and working breweries. Within two years, demand for Shipyard beer outpaced the small operation and, in April 1994, Forsley and Pugsley opened the Shipyard Brewing Company in the heart of the waterfront in Portland, Maine on the site of the former Crosby Laughlin Foundry.
