Hello and welcome to BabyVites. I’m Dr. Dafna Ahdoot, a pediatrician and the creator of this infant and child omega-3 vitamin. There are only a few essential vitamins and nutrients that we recommend our patients take because our body does not produce them. Most nutrients can be found in a child’s diet, even the pickiest of eaters. Omega 3 fatty acids and Vitamin D however, are examples of nutrients our bodies do not product, therefore making them essential. When a baby is born, we recommend supplementing with Vitamin D simply because there’s not enough Vitamin D in the newborn’s diet. Mom’s breast milk and formula do not have sufficient amounts of Vitamin D to allow for optimal bone growth. DHA is a vital Omega 3 fatty acid that is essential to the growing newborn’s body. This omega 3 fatty acid is found in different types of fish, plankton, and algae and has also been found to be of tremendous benefit not only to the newborns and infants, but also for toddlers and children. Research has been shown that daily 400 mg of DHA helps in an infant’s eye development, brain development, heart health, cognition, and immunity. It even benefits babies and children with eczema, ADHD, and autism. It is for this reason that I formulated BabyVites, a vitamin that contains both of these essential nutrients, DHA and Vitamin D, along with Vitamin A and E in a tasty and non-fishy form.
