AwareBase is an engineering information management solutions company that creates high functioning information environments for companies that design, build, maintain or operate engineered products. Engineering can be viewed as a black box where money and information flow in, and engineering outputs (deliverables) flow out. Many of these deliverables are on a project’s critical path. Engineering also generates volumes of supporting information that, although not deliverables, must nonetheless be organized and retained for future retrieval. Engineering work is captured in various electronic files. Creating, reviewing, approving, releasing, and distributing these files can take anywhere from hours to weeks. Over the life of an engineered product, many of these files will be revised and updated numerous times. Without the right toolset, the engineering work environment can become very chaotic. Information can be hard to find, and monitoring the progress of critical path deliverables can be tedious and inexact from work commencement to the release point. Achieving information control throughout the project and the discrete file lifecycle is a challenge. Information traceability is always an issue, making internal and regulatory audits stressful and difficult.
