The real estate industry is based around a system called the MLS (multiple listing service). Every detail of every property sold is listed in the MLS. In other words it's an underutilized raw database of information ready for the taking. When the MLS was created in the early 90s, its purpose was to make this information readily available to real estate agents. With the growth of companies like Zillow, Realtor, and Redfin, this information, once meant for only agents, is now readily available to anyone with an Internet connection. Consequently, the realtors role has been redefined. The agent’s focus has now shifted from being the gateway to MLS data to building value driven relationships with buyers, sellers and other agents. Innovation efforts have excelled for buyers and sellers, but lagged for real estate brokers and agents. Today, brokers and agents are scrambling to find a mobile solution to digest the 25 year old real estate database (MLS), navigating hundreds of fractured communication threads, and creating complex processes to streamline their workflow.
