Able Australia is one of Australia’s leading not-for-profit organisations, delivering high quality, person-centred services to people living with multiple disabilities, including deafblindness and in community support services.
From its humble beginnings in 1967 as an association for people with deafblindness and rubella, Able Australia has grown into a diverse and dynamic organisation that supports more than 4000 people throughout the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, Queensland and Victoria.
Today, we employ more than 500 staff and are assisted by over 200 volunteers who are passionate about ensuring every person we support is seen, heard, respected, valued and connected.
Deaf Children Australia employs over 60 staff and volunteers who, together with our Board of Directors, are united in their desire to remove barriers to the personal development and social inclusion faced by children and young people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
In achieving DCA’s vital work, our organisation, staff and volunteers uphold the following values:
Courage – We stand up for young people who are deaf and their families; and through innovation we strengthen their outcomes and hope for the future.
Respect – We are loyal to our history but respect the choice of individuals and the need for change.
Integrity – We are dependable in our service delivery and honour the commitments we make.
Teamwork – We embrace diverse opinions to build relationships that strengthen our capacity to achieve a common sector vision.
Resourcefulness – We are committed to delivering better value through efficient and effective systems and processes; and the use of resources entrusted to us.
We aim to provide children and young people who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families with the opportunities and skills to face life’s challenges and to celebrate their potential.
