I started a company called Fantasy Football World Series (now Atomic Fantasy). The game borrowed from the original World Series of Poker the idea to put the industry’s main formats into a single season to find out who the best player in the world is. Broken into four quarters, players are scored on their finish before drafting again for the next format. The top 3 finishers after all four quarters are completed advance to a week 17 final table. The format of the game changed the momentum of the fantasy football season to become more exciting, rather than less, as the season moved along, so that an audience would be encouraged to follow along with top fantasy pros as they vie for the championship. I was the first game to show live drafts in this format and introduced the idea that, just as there are stars in poker, there could also be in fantasy gaming, and that fantasy gaming brands could be represented through top players. These gamification concepts laid the groundwork for an innovative monetization strategy using digital assets that would allow my company to bypass regulations and become free and legal immediately in every state, a massive advantage in the gaming industry.
