Atkell Information

Founded in 1976, Atkell Services, a division of Atkell, Inc., provides contract cleaning services in the Rochester and Syracuse areas. Joel Kellmanson, Atkell's president, started Atkell to help offset the highly cyclical nature of his main business, Atlas Wrecking Co., a demolition contractor founded in 1934 by Charles Kellmanson. Atlas, which built its reputation in the construction industry on integrity, performance, and financial stability, performed major industrial dismantling jobs for heavy manufacturing industries throughout the eastern and southern United States for over 40 years. As the janitorial business grew, however, a decision was made to concentrate on the service sector of the economy and discontinue the demolition business. In 1983, Atlas was liquidated, and Atkell began to expand more rapidly. Atkell sought a limited, select customer base that required a higher quality level of maintenance and would value and respect honesty and high performance standards -- a cut above the rest. Our business concept is to provide labor-related services to companies in a more efficient and effective manner than they would be able to do with their own personnel. To further develop its business philosophy, Atkell expanded into the temporary help business in October 1983, by purchasing a Syracuse, New York company. By 1985, the temporary help operations expanded to include Rochester. Atkell Temps, a division of Atkell, Inc., provides light industrial and office temporaries to area businesses. In 1991, Atkell began supplying janitorial services to the Syracuse market. Today, Atkell is a multi-faceted service corporation employing over 400 people in the Rochester, Canandaigua and Syracuse areas. Atkell continues to grow while constantly improving the quality of its services. The Rochester Business Journal has named Atkell, Inc. as one of Rochester's Top 50 Private Companies in 2006.
