Atitlan.com developed out of the affection and fascination I have for this delightful corner of the world and for the Mayans who live here. I came to Atitlan as a college student the first time in 1974 on what was then called the "Gringo Trail". Since 1983 I have had the good fortune to call Atitlan home. I started Atitlan.com in 1998 basically with the idea of trying to make enough money to not have to go back to the US to work. After all, I speak English, I had a computer and a camera so I thought: "Why not?". All these years later, I'm still at it and I haven't moved back yet. It wasn't a brilliant business plan; still I did survive while many a dot-com crashed and burned. With the formation of Tropical Travel Association, Atitlan.com, as a hotel and tour guide, focuses on the best the lake has to offer. Lake Atitlan is indeed the most beautiful lake in the world, but it is much more than just that. Atitlan.com is also a travel magazine through which I can share my attraction to and knowledge of this beautiful place and the Mayans who live here. Most who come to Guatemala visit Atitlan.
