Atalaya Mining is a new European copper producer with Proyecto Riotinto as its main asset. The Company operates an open-pit mine with certified ore reserves totalling 606,000 tonnes of contained copper and a large processing facility that was placed on care and maintenance in 2001. Following 18 months of refurbishment, commissioning and ramp-up, commercial production was declared in February 2016 and the processing plant is now operating at design capacity. The Expansion Project is under way which will increase processing capacity to 9.5Mtpa by the end of 2016.
