Associação Viver a Ciência is a non-profit organisation that works to strengthen the relationship between science and society. We believe that scientific knowledge is a powerful tool for understanding the world and should be shared by everyone. We want to contribute to the construction of a more democratic society, equipped to critically evaluate the pseudo-scientific messages that permeate advertising and political discourse, a society that understands and appreciates the beauty of natural phenomena and the relevance of scientific research. We aim to bring more science to the general public, especially to those who don’t usually come across it. Our actions take place online, in cinemas and museums, on the beach, in theatres and bookstores, and even in commercial spaces. Whenever possible, we seek to combine the dissemination of knowledge with other forms of cultural and artistic expression, such as audiovisuals, photography, literature, theatre, and humour. We also want to support research careers in Portugal by raising private funds to support the development of excellent scientific projects and seeking to inspire future scientists with actions aimed at younger people. Our mission is also to highlight that these future researchers can be found anywhere, coming from many diverse cultural and socio-economic contexts.
