asrTrust provides retiree health care benefits for ~50,000 unionized GM and Chrysler retirees and their families. Established in 2011, as the first employee life and health trust (ELHT) in Canada, asrTrust is unique in that it was funded largely by a one time contribution from the original plan sponsors. Managed by a board of directors and small staff, asrTrust is responsible for both ensuring that the assets are prudently managed to fund the retiree health benefits for the duration of their retirement, and that the benefit plan is comprehensive and responsive to members changing needs to enhance their health and lives.
