Ask Ivy is an EdTech startup on a mission to empower every high school student in the US to discover the best version of themselves, regardless of family income. It will help students work with their parents or counselors to evaluate various pathways towards building the most compelling student profile, serving as a guide for students as they make choices and trade-offs – from which courses to take to what types of extracurriculars to focus on – all with a clear understanding of how down the line those decisions and ensuing accomplishments might impact the likelihood of getting into a given college for their chosen major. Despite the 2019 Varsity Blues scandal (athletic recruiting “back door”) some families continue to spend tens of thousands of dollars on private college counseling services. They are looking for a leg up in the college application process and hoping for exclusive insights and more personalized and frequent guidance than can be provided by high school college counselors – who may be responsible for countless other students and only available to meet once per semester, sometimes starting as late as junior year. The pressure for expensive supplemental counseling feeds off the stress and fears surrounding surging applicant pools, plummeting admission rates, and skyrocketing tuition fees. College counseling is now a $3B industry in the United States and ripe for disruption by Gen AI and other AI/ML and analytics techniques. Advanced analytics can be leveraged to broadly synthesize the college admissions policies and admissions data of nearly all 4000+ post-secondary institutions in the US, alongside the crowdsourced wisdom of counselors, other parents, and alumni.
