ASCALON STUDIOS, was founded by the Hungarian-born master sculptor Maurice Ascalon (1913-2003), an innovator within the Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern decorative arts movements. He is perhaps best known for his monumental-scaled hammered copper relief sculpture “The Scholar, the Laborer, and the Toiler of the Soil”, which adorned the landscape of the 1939 New York World’s Fair. For three generations now, Ascalon Studios has undertaken projects throughout North America and internationally. Today, the studio operates under the artistic direction of its principal, the notable artist/designer David Ascalon (b. 1945), an architecture and design graduate of New York’s Pratt Institute, and past president of The American Guild of Judaic Art. Today, ASCALON STUDIOS operates as a multifaceted boutique art and design firm specializing in the creation of innovative site-specific artworks, design elements, and donor recognition projects for worship, public, institutional, and hospitality environments - as well as select residential environments - throughout North America. Projects include the implementation of: STAINED GLASS & ARCHITECTURAL GLASS ART including stained glass windows, carved glass, fused glass, mosaics & fired ceramic murals; DONOR RECOGNITION PROJECTS including innovative donor walls, mission statement & history displays, memorial walls, award presentations, and signage; SCULPTURE, MONUMENTS & MEMORIALS in a range of materials and artistic media; and COMPREHENSIVE SANCTUARY/CHAPEL DESIGN including the creation of artwork, specialty furnishings, and decorative and functional elements for worship and contemplative spaces;
