AED ingezet in Noord-Holland (m.u.v. Gooi en Vechtstreek)? Bel +31 (0)20 5669472 ARREST (AmsteRdam REsuscitation STudies) maintains an ongoing prospective registry of all out-of-hospital resuscitation attempts in the provinces of North-Holland and Flevoland in the Netherlands. Every year, 30,000 people in the Netherlands suffer a sudden cardiac arrest, resulting in approximately 8,000 resuscitation attempts outside the hospital. Around 15 people die every day as a result of cardiac arrest. Therefore, investigating which factors increase the risk of cardiac arrest and studying how resuscitation attempts outside the hospital are performed is essential. In close collaboration with all ambulance services, dispatch centers and hospitals in the study region, and with data from police, firefighters and lay responders, we analyze the complete first response to a sudden cardiac arrest, including the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Our registry captures the characteristics of every resuscitation attempt, enabling research into the risk factors of sudden cardiac arrest. Our aim: determining which factors matter most for patient survival, and identifying where the chain of survival can be improved.
