Arredorama is jointly owned and managed by Chris Hancock and Anthony Maxworthy. The Australian commercial furniture market has traditionally resembled a ball, comprising a large middle market with small top and bottom ends. Product was assembled here, complimented by quality imports from either Europe or the USA and budget items from Asia. Globalisation has caused a seismic shift as tariff reduction made Australian assembly uncompetitive. Furniture sellers began the large scale importation of Asian products and classic copies for competitive pricing. This all but destroyed the local industry and with it the middle market. Our market now resembles a pyramid with a very broad base of inexpensive imports and a narrow peak of quality product. In this new environment the directors of Arredorama have made a conscious decision to concentrate on sustainable furniture with high design resolution.
