Arlington Heights Junior Woman's Club (AHJWC) Information

The Arlington Heights Junior Woman’s Club was formed in 1933 by a young woman who wished to carry out community philanthropic projects. The main objective, which still holds true today, is to “Live each day, trying to accomplish something, not merely to exist.” We are non-political and non-sectarian. Our service projects over the years have changed to meet the current needs and lifestyles of the community. Some of our past projects have included painting a cartoon mural in the Pediatric Ward at Northwest Community Hospital and creating a needlepoint alphabet quilt that hangs in the children’s department at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library. Our club was also the driving force in coordinating the Arlington Heights Farmer’s Market and starting the popular SafetyTown project. Club’s fund raising efforts continue throughout the year and allow us to make contributions to a number of organizations in need. Our annual spring fundraiser is the largest effort of the year and culminates in a social event which raises thousands of dollars for selected organizations. In combination with other small fundraisers, we are able to make yearly monetary donations to local, state, and federal philanthropies. Our fundraisers are a source of pride for our organization and we continue to be regarded as an outstanding club by the community. One of our major beneficiaries remains the Northwest Community Hospital where we fund the Children’s Toy Library as well as other departments as chosen. Our funding of scholarships to local high school students draws many applications for some of the finest of our community’s graduating seniors. The AHJWC has received many state and local awards throughout the years for our community service projects. In addition to our ongoing fundraising, we participate in many community projects such as the Arlington Heights Historical Society’s Annual Housewalk, Clearbrook holiday parties, the Wheeling Township Food Pantry, and National Make a Difference Day. Club members also annually chair the Wish Tree project which provides Christmas presents to local needy children as well as cooking meals to assist with the P.A.D.S (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) organization. In addition to working for the betterment of our community, we are a social club with monthly events open to all members. Social events have included movie and game nights, wine tastings, craft nights, road rallys, progressive dinners and holiday parties. The Club is what our members make it and we are continually looking for new ideas, suggestions and dedicated women for service, fundraising and friendship.
