Archipel, that is the quest for architecture, the spatial experience, the overwhelming sensory sensation. It is also a search for the genesis of architecture. How has it come into being? Understanding its evolution, its development. The straight (or rather) winding paths towards it. With a program of architecture tours and lectures, Archipel focuses on no-nonsense architecture: materials, structure, form, immediate context and actual experience, perception and significance. With this aim in mind Archipel organizes well-attended monthly lectures about the most interesting new architecture in Flanders. Keynote speakers, leading architects both Belgian and internationally acclaimed give the audience an exclusive insight into their work and creative process.! Thanks to the annual architectural tours, Archipel members have travelled not only all over Europe, but also to the United States, Japan, Brasil, India and so on. Icons of 20th century architecture, contemporary groundbreaking buildings of the 21st century…You name it. Archipel has been there or will soon go. Archipel attempts to grasp how and where boundaries are crossed and frontiers are redefined. How and where architecture can become universal and timeless. Archipel has embarked on an existential quest for nothing less than the true nature of architecture. As an organization for architecture, Archipel wishes to share its passion for authenticity with both architectural professionals and non-professional enthusiasts. Over the years, spanning generations this has created in Flanders an impressive network beneficial to all.
