Applied Material Intelligence (AMI) Information

Applied Material Intelligence (AMI) builds terahertz instruments that measure what is under a surface without cutting into it. Our instrument, Chameleon, is a time-domain terahertz system for non-destructive subsurface inspection of coatings, polymers and composites. It measures: - Coating thickness, single layer and multilayer, wet or dry - Layer structure and interface quality in stacked systems - Corrosion and creep beneath intact coatings - Voids, delamination and inclusions below the surface - Wet-to-dry film development during cure Where it fits: coatings R&D and QC labs, NDT and inspection teams, polymer and composite production, coated pipe and tube production. Typical use is replacing destructive cross-sectioning, or replacing isolated spot readings from magnetic and ultrasonic gauges with higher-resolution mapping across an area. What it does not do: terahertz does not penetrate metal. We measure coatings and non-metallic materials on metal substrates, not through metal. AMI is a spin-out of the Technical University of Denmark, based in Copenhagen. Chameleon is built on terahertz research developed at DTU since 2016.
