Our engineering team has a long history of competing at the SMUD Solar Regatta competition every year in Sacramento where we bring our very own custom-built solar-powered electric boat to compete against other high schools from all around California. During the school year, we build our true-to-life size solar-powered electric boat through weekly build meetings where students design and construct without any adult assistance; the goal behind these meetings being to not only be successful in competition, but to also promote and offer a hands-on approach to STEM for those in our community. Our unique hands-on approach to STEM is valuable not only because it sets us apart from other traditional academic teams on our campus but because it also allows us to expose students early on to practical engineering and teach them hard skills through real-world practice.
