AppleTree Credit Union was organized in June, 1935 as Kearney & Trecker Employees Credit Union. It served the employees and families of Kearney & Trecker Corporation (KT), a machine tool manufacturer located in West Allis. The credit union was housed on company property. In 1976, the credit union, then known as KT Credit Union, built a free standing building approximately one mile from the company, on West Rogers Street in West Allis. At the same time, KTCU began to broaden its field of membership eligibility to include employees of companies located within a short distance of their new office. Most of these companies were small, with employment under fifty. In 1979, KTCU added to the growing list of select employer groups (SEGs). During this same period, share drafts (checking accounts) were offered to the membership. In 1982, KTCU introduced money market savings and Individual Retirement Accounts, both made possible by legislation enacted in that same year. In order to reflect the credit union's diversified membership the name of the organization was changed in 1984 to AppleTree Credit Union (ATCU). Over the years, ATCU acquired the assets of Golden Guernsey Employees Credit Union, Greyhound Credit Union, Inryco Credit Union, Interstate Credit Union, La Cooperative Credit Union, Milwaukee Psychiatric Employees Credit Union, Milwaukee Teachers Credit Union, Waukesha Bearings Credit Union, Waukesha Motor Employees Credit Union, and Wisconsin Lutheran High School Conference Credit Union. The addition of Waukesha Motor Employees Credit Union resulted in the first branch location of the credit union, located in Waukesha and opened in 1986. The West Allis Office location relocated in 2005 from a side-street in an industrial area, to a main highway with much improved visibility. Members were surveyed by CUNA Research in 2005 and 2008, with results presented at a board/management planning session shortly after the results were published. Ninety-seven percent of members rate themselves as satisfied or very satisfied with AppleTree Credit Union in 2005, with 98% rated the credit union in this way in the 2008 survey. Our goal is to continue to offer exceptional service coupled with outstanding rates to help our members achieve their financial dreams.
