Anzenberger Gallery Information

The AnzenbergerGallery was founded by Regina Maria Anzenberger in 2002. Until 2012, the gallery's showrooms were located at Zeinlhofergasse 7 (close to Naschmarkt), but since September 2012, they have relocated to a very spacious loft in the former Anker bread factory, today called Brotfabrik Wien. Since 2005, the gallery has also had a very extensive online presence at www.anzenbergergallery.com. After many years of success with the AnzenbergerAgency in the field of editorial photography and a love of the arts, founding a gallery just seemed a natural progression for Regina Maria Anzenberger. The AnzenbergerAgency was established in 1989 and has been representing international photographers in the fields of photojournalism, documentation, reportage, portraiture and conceptual storytelling ever since. Among the agency's many clients are publications such as The New York Times, National Geographic, Geo, Stern, Vogue, The New Yorker, Aperture, and Le Monde. Many of the photographers represented by the agency are known internationally and have exhibitions in galleries and museums worldwide on a regular basis. Most of them have also had photography books put out by prestigious publishers. The AnzenbergerGallery is offering a selection of high-quality contemporary and vintage black & white and color fine art prints. Most black & white photographs are on silver gelatin prints and the color photographs are on various materials such as lambda or pigment prints. The quality of the photographs always meets the highest archival standards. Prints are signed on the front or back according to the photographers' preferences. Sometimes the photographs are mounted on acid-free archival cardboard or on aluminium. They can be delivered unmatted and unframed, but also with mat and/or frame. Since 2003, AnzenbergerGallery has been collaborating with the Austrian National Library. The gallery features gelatin silver prints (from original glass negatives) from Ferdinand Schmutzer (see also: Photographers International "Ferdinand Schmutzer - A Photographic Discovery" and "Ferdinand Schmutzer - Fotografien 1897-1928"). In addition, the gallery, in collaboration with the Austrian National Library and the Intercultural Social Project Graz, has developed, after two years of intensive preparation, a portfolio of Heinrich Kuehn entitled "The Collection of Autochrome Plates 1907-1913" and is also the exclusive distributor of this reprint. In the showrooms at Absberggasse 27, 1100 Vienna, the AnzenbergerGallery shows largely unseen young or established international artists over five exhibition cycles per year. Some of the photographers are also represented exclusively by the gallery, including Klaus Pichler, Reiner Riedler, Paul Schneggenburger, Eugenia Maximova, Alena Zhandarova among others, and in Vienna, the internationally renowned Magnum photographer, Martin Parr as well as Roger Ballen, who is one of the most important photographers of his generation worldwide. Since 2011, the gallery has also had a bookshop with a selection of photography books, including rare, signed, and self-published books by photographers. In June 2013, the new online bookshop of AnzenbergerGallery has been launched just in time for the first Vienna Photobook Festival, a collaboration between AnzenbergerGallery and OstLicht.
