ANE International Information

ANE International is a non profit organization that was established in 2016 by families affected by the disease Acute Necrotizing Encephalopathy. Our goals are to support families worldwide with a diagnosis of ANE, to raise awareness and educate on this little known but devastating disease. ANE is a rare type of brain disease that occurs following viral infections. Influenza is the leading trigger, followed by HSV6 and other viruses such as Covid19, varicella and RSV. Cytokine Storm is the accepted pathogenesis. ANE occurs worldwide and presents usually in previously well children. Adolescent and adult cases have been reported. It can be non-genetic and genetic in origin. It has the susceptibility to be recurrent in patients who have specific gene variants (RANBP2).
