SOUTH HAVEN - Andru Bemis makes the 10-minute walk from his small, efficiency-style home to downtown South Haven's Foundry Hall several times a day. It's a stroll through a neighborhood he grew up near and one he revels making these days, even when it means he'll be polishing floors. Bemis, 29, became the general manager two months ago of Foundry Hall, a performance space on the corner of Center and Eagle streets, and is aiming to turn it into a thriving home for area musicians and artists. Along with public relations coordinator Jephri Carey and building owners Joanne and David Putman, Bemis thinks Foundry Hall can become an all-ages entertainment destination, with some help from the community. "I think it's something we need to have," Bemis said. "I know it's something we can support here." Bemis is a well-traveled musician who has made his living performing around the country the past five years. After being raised in South Haven, he moved away for a couple of years but is there to stay now and has his sights set on using his knowledge of music venues to develop Foundry Hall into a hub. "In all my travels, it's rare to find a place like this, especially in a small town," Bemis said.
