Organizations run on relationships. Yet the language most people use to discern the quality of their own relationships is surprisingly simple: words like good or bad, positive or corrosive. These terms are opaque. They offer little insight into what's really happening between two people, how that connection can improve, and whether investing in it is worth either person's time. The Anchor Relationships® framework shifts the conversation from: "Do we have a good relationship?" to "What specifically is helping or limiting our effectiveness together?" An Anchor Relationship has three qualities: * Growth: Both people invest in each other's development and recognize what the other is capable of becoming. * Efficacy: Each person becomes more confident in their own ability to handle difficult situations. * Values Coherence: Each person stays honest and acts on their own values when the organization pressures them to compromise. These qualities are face-valid, meaning that you don't have to be a scientist to understand them. They identify behaviors that are observable, meaning you and your coworker can learn to discern what's working and what isn't. And these behaviors are learnable, which means we can all gain greater agency with our relationships.
