Alpine, being the brand name for the building material concern, has been in the industry for the last 50 years. The company began in retail, with focus and attention solely on providing individual customer satisfaction at is well-known store in the heart of Kwa-Zulu Natal being Petermaritzburg. With the phenomenal performance of this outlet, coupled with the removal of Sanctions on South Africa in 1994, the company moved towards sourcing building material products globally and wholesaling these across South Africa. Today, Alpine boasts distribution hubs in every major City Centre in South Africa with a National Presence. This National Presence has been viewed as a boon from the likes of Chain stores such as Cashbuild's and Walmart stores which are amongst the country's largest Building Material outlets. With the above well in motion, 2010 signalled a turning point in Alpine's History with the firm importing cement out of Pakistan. Six years later, with 55 self-chartered cargo vessels completed comprising of approximately 40 000 tons on each liner Alpine is now South Africa's largest Importer and Distributor of Cement in the country. We have changed the market dynamics with regards to the way cement is distributed in the country and are now currently using these resources to tap into certain of Africa's fastest growing countries such as Angola and Mozambique. With cement now being a large part of our DNA the strategy is to increase our footprint in this industry.
