He is no stranger to giving back to the community. For seven years Wendell volunteered as a fireman in Wylie where he served as Lieutenant, Logistics Officer and Battalion Chief before stepping down to spend more time with his family. During his tenure as a volunteer firefighter while store directing Wal-Mart stores around the Metroplex, Wendell was the recipient of the Sam M. Walton Leadership of Excellence award in 1994 (the most prestigious award in the Wal-Mart corporation) which is given to a single store director annually for his community involvement and business entrepreneurship. Wendell has participated in children development through coaching various sports organizations around the area and will continue his involvement in children development. Wendell continues to be involved in several local chambers. Wendell is also currently a member of the Wylie Lions Club.
