Alive & Well Information

Alive & Well has been around in one form or another since the early 70's and trace their roots back to the mid to late 60's in Lowell. Comprised of members of several earlier bands such as Scragg Zoster, The Headhunters and Trialsm, the core of the group was fromed in 1973 when Dale Kropf, Cindy Adams (now Cindy Kropf), Jerry Adams, and Roger MacNaughton (along with Dave Jones and a succession of drummers) began performing in the Grand Rapids area as Stillwater. They worked for a period of time at the Candlestone Inn in Belding and moved later to Stephanie's Lounge in Grand Rapids. Primarily a soft rock/country rock group they began branching out and recording original material and also writing and recording commerical jingles. The addition in 1974 of drummer Carl Andrews completed the group's line-up and they began touring the Midwest and South, honing their music skills and diversifying into other forms of popular music. Changing their name in the late 70's to Alive & Well, they worked steadily in clubs and in 1979 welcomed guitarist Dan Lomas into the group. In 1980 they released a self-titled album with some regional success and were the opening act for such diverse groups as Rare Earth, Jim Stafford, Dottie West, and Donny and Marie Osmond. They also performed that summer as a featured act on the Lowell Showboat. In 1985 they opened their own nightclub in Grand Rapids called Pocketts and continued to entertain as well as control operations there. The group disbanded in 1988 and the members fell somewhat out of contact until the summer of 2001 when the Lowell Area Arts Council staged a reunion of several of the groups from the late 60's and 70's. After getting back together to rehearse with the various bands, Dale, Cindy, Jerry, Roger, Carl and Dan found that they were having so much fun playing together again that they decided to reunite once again as Alive & Well.
