During the late 1920’s, an impossible love story developed between Alegra Bello, a beautiful Jewish girl from Machane Yehuda, and Jebra Francis Rahil from the village of Ein Kerem. At the height of their romance, the two lovers ran away to Bethlehem, where Alegra decided to convert to Christianity and the two secretly married. When Alegra’s father heard of his daughter’s affairs, he declared her "dead”, he ripped a piece off his lapel, scattered ash on his head and her entire family mourned her for seven days. In 1930 the couple returned and settled in Ein Kerem, where they built the house of their dreams. Jebra Francis built the house as a symbol of his love for Alegra – a love that can felt within its walls to this day. As the years passed, the house became known by the village residents as The House of the Jewish Girl” and remains a tangible reminder of that same love - a love that crossed boundaries and religions at the turn of the last century. Today, following extensive refurbishment and restoration, the house has been converted into an intimate and charming boutique hotel in Jerusalem. In the enchanting old building, seven one-of-a-kind suites open their doors to seven epic tails of love, inviting guests to capture their own personal moments and create unforgettable memories. Surrounded by a lush and fragrant Mediterranean orchard, the Alegra Hotel offers captivating views of Ein Kerem and the Judah Mountains from its rooftop.
