Al Día is CSUF’s Emmy award-winning newscast which prepares bilingual students for careers in Spanish-language television. Each week, Al Día students are put through a rigorous MMJ (multimedia journalist) bootcamp where they learn to write, shoot, and edit packages for TV and the web, as well as produce and direct during a live broadcast. The ultimate goal is to give students the skill-set that will make them competitive and employable in the current journalism job climate. Several of Al Día’s news stories have also aired on Univisión’s millennial newscast Edición Digital California. During the 2019-2020 academic year Al Día won 15 prestigious national collegiate journalism awards, including the 40th College Television Awards/Student Emmys in the the Best TV News category, a Hearst Award for Best Feature Reporting, and multiple recognitions from the Associated Collegiate Press, the College Media Association, the Broadcast Education Association, the CSU Media Arts Festival, and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. Al Día is managed by four-time Emmy award-winning News Producer Jesús Ayala. Professor Ayala can be reached at jeayala@fullerton.edu. Al Día airs on YouTube and is transmitted every Tuesday on Time Warner’s channel 98 and AT&T’s U-verse’s channel 99.
