AJ DONOHUE FOUNDATION INC Information

The AJ Donohue Foundation's mission is to continue the goals and dreams of our namesake, AJ Donohue, who lost his battle with cancer in 2006. Specifically, the Foundation seeks to (1) support institutions providing care to victims of pediatric cancer, (2) award scholarships to those who provide care or aspire to provide care to pediatric cancer patients; and (3) uplift families of children afflicted with pediatric cancer. The Foundation began when a teenage cancer patient receiving chemo-therapy at Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida decided to give back to the hospital that had given him so much. His idea was simple: to buy a comfortable recliner for every hospital room so that family members and friends of patients could have somewhere to sit and sleep during visits. AJ and his family and friends (or "TeamAJ" as they would become known) began selling stickers and t-shirts in an effort to raise the $50,000 needed to purchase the recliners. In just a few months, TeamAJ met and exceeded its fundraising goal. On September 23, 2006, the morning after meeting the $50,000 goal, AJ passed away. But TeamAJ picked up right where he left off. Since his passing, TeamAJ has become the AJ Donohue Foundation, Inc. The Foundation funds pediatric oncology scholarships at Wolfson Children's Hospital, and now annually awards a Glynn County high school student with a scholarship to attend the nursing program at the College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick, GA. Further, the Foundation continues to fund the Wolfson Children's Clinic at the Southeast Georgia Regional Hospital in Brunswick and buys Christmas gifts and toys for children who spend the Christmas holiday in Atlanta-area hospitals. With your help, we will further expand the Foundation and spread AJ's message of courage and determination for years to come.
