AirXpanders Inc., founded in 2005, designs, manufactures and markets innovative medical devices to improve breast reconstruction. The company’s flagship product, the AeroForm Tissue Expander System, is used in patients undergoing two-stage breast reconstruction following mastectomy. The AeroForm Tissue Expander System is the first and only FDA-cleared, patient-controlled and needle-free tissue tissue expander. Instead of requiring weekly visits to the surgeon for saline injections to expand, the AeroForm is gradually filled with carbon dioxide (CO2). Using a wireless dosage controller, the patient independently inflates the expander in the comfort of her own home and is able to control the pace of expansion. AeroForm also has CE Mark and TGA (Australia) approval and is commercially available in Australia.
