Dr. Hakan Doganay specializes in FUE, BHT (body hair transplantation - using hair from various parts of the body such as the beard and chest to restore hair to balding areas of the scalp) and eyebrow reconstruction. Dr. Doganay is very selective in choosing patients for surgery since every patient is not a suitable FUE candidate. Dr. Doganay is very hands on implanting the grafts to his patients recipient area. Dr. Doganay's nurses use an extraction tool called micro-motor with punches ranging from .6mm to .8mm in order minimize scarring to the donor area while harvesting follicular units. In their hands, transection rates and damage to follicular units during extraction and placement are typically minimal. Dr. Hakan Doganay uses the Choi Implanter pen for placing grafts into recipient sites. With the help of several experienced nurses, follicular units are carefully loaded into Choi implanter pens ranging from 0.6mm to 0.8mm in size. Dr. Doganay then carefully places all the grafts himself into tiny recipient sites using the pen implanter in the front line and for other areas he gets helps from his technician. The Choi implanter is a surgical tool that has the potential to make some aspects of the hair transplant procedure easier. While the advantages of the Choi implanter have been debated by leading hair transplant surgeons, Dr. Doganay believes that the Choi implanter can minimize the potential mishandling/damage to the grafts during placement. Ultimately, a surgical tool is only as good as the physician using it. Dr. Doganay feels that in his hands, he can and does produce excellent results. All follicular units are implanted within 5 hours after extraction in order to minimize desiccation (dehydration) and death to the follicles. Dr. Doganay is confident he can produce optimal growth yield of approximately 80% to 95% with his technique. Dr. Doganay designs and creates natural looking hairlines that mimic nature by using only 1 haired follicular units in the first couple of rows. Like other leading surgeons, he feels that multi-haired grafts placed in the hairline look unnatural.
