After18 Information

After18 is a Leicester-based charity working with unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people as they turn 18 and make the transition into adulthood. Most have been separated from their families and are alone in a new country where everything is unfamiliar. We aim to be a trusted source of information for young people - whatever their country of origin - to find out about life in the UK. We now have a dedicated website - After18 Info - containing accessible resources for young people, available here. Young adults in the asylum system receive one-to-one support from us to understand what is happening, consider their options and plan for their future. After18 works with academics to support research into the post-18 lives of former unaccompanied asylum-seeking children. We feel this is important as it informs good practice in working with minors. We are currently working with the Becoming Adult project based at Oxford University. After18 also runs activities for young people to socialise, have fun and learn new skills. In addition, we provide speakers for groups and facilitate events to raise awareness of the issues affecting young asylum seekers.
