Afghan Organization for Migration - AOM Information

Afghanistan is one of the fragile states in the world. It is suffering from decades of war and ongoing insurgency in large part of the country. In particular, ongoing armed conflicts, natural disasters, and humanitarian crises caused a large number of internally displaced and millions migrated abroad. We seek a world of hope, tolerance, and social justice, where poverty is zero and people live in dignity and security so that irregular migration prevented. AOM will not internally but would partner globally with the international community to play a significant role in reducing the irregular migration by contributing to ending poverty within Afghanistan. We would need recognition within the country for our unshakable commitment to the dignity of people. The economic status of Afghan people didn’t improve over the last 18 years. However there has been constant improvement with aid from the international community since 2001; nevertheless, ongoing insurgency, insufficient job opportunities, lack of resources and natural disaster (drought) led the country into a difficult position – Lack of capacity to observe aid made it further difficult for partners and donor’s support Afghans return home. At the moment, there is a need for a coordinated and coherent approach by supporting and implementing relevant projects in coordination with relevant Afghan Ministries. A group of Afghan experts with more than a decade of professional experience in different sectors with the national, international community and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GoIRA) have come together and established the Afghan Organization for Migration (AOM) to serve the vulnerable people of Afghanistan. The AOM focuses on coordinating and providing humanitarian assistance, diaspora engagement, migration management at various levels within GoIRA and it is programmatic approach is policy advocacy.
