Frac water heating The process of hydraulically fracturing, or “fracking” an oil or gas well involves pumping a fluid slurry into the well bore at sufficient pressure so as to fracture the producing formation, thereby creating conductive flowpaths for the hydrocarbons. In many cases, frac water must be heated to optimize the fracking process. In a “gel frac,” the heating process ensures frac solutions, which generally consist of water, proppants and specialized chemicals, blend properly and then flow through the well bore into the formation. In “slick water” fracs, the heating process melts frozen frac water and prevents it from re-freezing prior to entering the well bore. Heat Waves owns and operates specialized equipment designed to rapidly heat the large quantities of water used in a frac job. truck-mounted burner boxes are capable of generating up to 50 million Btu’s. Trucks come configured as and single burners (bobtail), double burners, and mega heaters. Water stored in frac tanks, temporary pools, ponds or reservoirs is circulated through the burner boxes and elevated to a pre-determined temperature prior to being used in the frac.
