Technology development in analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits Digital circuits have advanced by leaps and bounds, most of all thanks to the miniaturization of device features and design automation. Analog circuits are difficult to miniaturize and don't lend themselves to being automated; however the world around us is still stubbornly analog in nature! Sound waves, temperature, light and a host of other physical quantities are all analog. Hence the design of analog and mixed-signal circuits is relevant in modern sub-micron processes everywhere there is an interface between the physical world and information systems. Sometimes the design of a particular application may still be more practical as an analog circuit; other times the analog or mixed-signal function is an enabling feature in a highly integrated system.
