A NEW angling business surrounded by popular Lancashire waterways, canals and reservoirs has been given support by some of Britain's top fishing experts. Adlington Angling Centre is run by brothers Andrew and Shaun Gibbs, who also have plans to win over a young generation of anglers through forming new teams, hosting workshops,entering contests and just enjoy the magic of fishing. Andrew, aged 36, has been fishing since he was boy and said: "We want to attract young anglers to the shop and into the sport. Some angling shops traditionally had a slightly intimidating image, typically being run by big blokes with mugs of tea. Young people could be put off by the experience of being dazzled with loads of equipment and being asked questions that they didn't understand. "We want to break the stigma associated with angling and get away from that negative image and bring the magic back into fishing. We are opening 7 days a week from 6am in the morning, earlier than any other shop in the area. I had the problem when i used to go fishing there was no shop open for fresh bait, so we decided to cater for the early morning fisherman too. "I started off catching course fish like Roach and Perch in local canals and rivers. Then I fished for predators, especially Pike before getting into Carp fishing. "There is a big push to get younger people interested in angling this year by the celebrity anglers, angling media as well as the Angling Trust . I loved fishing from a young age and it would be great to get a few young anglers, male and female, to join teams, enter competitions or just simply enjoy the pleasure of fishing. We've had a chat with a local fishery and they are very keen to work with us. We can all benefit by working together." The business is also a Daiwa equipment stockist - the first new stockist to be appointed in the last five years, Andrew said.
