The NBL is the premier competition in the Southern Hemisphere, comprised of teams from Australia and New Zealand.

The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is Australia's longest running elite female national competition. Founded in 1981 the WNBL Championship is set to enter its 43rd season in 2022/23. The WNBL Championship is regarded as one of the strongest female basketball leagues in the world. The League features eight clubs across Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales and Queensland. The Adelaide 36ers (also well known as the Sixers) are an Australian professional men's basketball team that competes in the National Basketball League (NBL). The 36ers are the only team in the league representing the state of South Australia and are based in the state capital, Adelaide. The 36ers nickname comes from the fact that the Colony of South Australia was officially proclaimed on 28 December 1836. They play their home games at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre (AEC) in the suburb of Hindmarsh, 10 minutes from Adelaide's CBD.
