A native Japanese, Hanako was born in Tokyo, but spent most of her childhood in New York, developing a sensibility that fuses both Eastern and Western cultures. During her years studying Art History at Columbia Univeristy, Hanako re-discovered the beauty of traditional Japanese art and literature. Seeing the relevance of these traditional art forms in modern culture, Hanako strives to create fashion that brings this tradition to life through a modern voice.
