The data- and biobank Acutelines is initiated to improve recognition and treatment of acute diseases and obtain insight in the consequences of acute diseases, including factors predicting its outcome. To reach these aims, we will collect health data and biomaterial (blood, urine, stool) of patients visiting the emergency department of the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). Subsequently, additional data is collected describing the development of the acute disease in hospital, as well as during long-term follow-up after hospital discharge. Currently, little is known about the specific causes and consequences of acute illnesses. Through Acutelines, both of these questions can be researched. In this way we will be able to optimize patient treatment and be able to better predict patient outcomes after an acute admission. Collected information and biomaterials will be made available for other researchers.
