Activating Change Information

Activating Change works to end violence, criminalization, incarceration, and institutionalization of people with disabilities and Deaf people. We believe everybody belongs—everywhere. People with disabilities and Deaf people deserve to be safe, free, and supported to live and thrive in their communities. We work at the intersections of disability, gender-based violence, and criminal justice reform. We work to ensure survivors with disabilities and Deaf survivors can access safety, support, and healing—and to reduce the number of people with disabilities who enter and remain in the criminal legal system. Through training, technical assistance, direct services, resources, and systems change, we help communities and organizations build responses that are accessible, effective, and shaped by the people most impacted. Our work goes beyond access. We work to change the systems and conditions that make people with disabilities and Deaf people less safe, less free in the first place. Safety. Freedom. Community.
